Platform Engineer (AWS)

Location: Hybrid in Columbia, Maryland, United States, with an average of 1–2 days per week in the Columbia office. U.S. citizenship is required, and a Secret-level U.S. Government security clearance will be processed.

Salary: $111,662–$145,000 annually.

What you will do

• Develop and deploy custom software components for complex Big Data and cloud challenges.
• Design and implement software architecture from prototype through operational applications.
• Define, build, and manage virtual cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Integrate and optimize open-source code and improve the robustness of existing systems.
• Identify and troubleshoot complex platform issues while working autonomously toward strategic architecture goals.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in platform engineering or Go software development with a related bachelor’s degree; alternative education and experience combinations are accepted.
• Hands-on experience developing and deploying infrastructure in AWS.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Ansible, and storage layers such as Ceph, Rook, or Longhorn.
• Strong Go programming skills and a solid understanding of Linux systems, hosts, networks, security, and applications.
• Proficiency in Shell or Bash scripting, strong problem-solving skills, and excellent oral and written communication.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to work in a hybrid arrangement in Columbia, Maryland are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with DISA’s Big Data Platform or other Hadoop-based Big Data systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitLab CI, Travis CI, or Jenkins.
• Knowledge of agile development methodologies and tools such as Jira, Confluence, GitHub, or GitLab.
• Experience with Puppet, Maven, virtualization platforms, or DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II compliance certifications.
