IT Platform Engineer (AWS/GitLab)

Location: Tokyo, Sumida-ku, Japan (Hybrid). What you will do

• Design and build reusable AWS and on-premise platform capabilities for development, testing, deployment, and application operations.
• Own the GitLab ecosystem, including CI/CD pipeline optimization, runner management, integrations, repository templates, standardized workflows, and reusable automation.
• Create templates, golden paths, and self-service provisioning workflows for consistent environments without manual intervention.
• Improve software ownership through maintainable repositories, documentation, release processes, automated testing, and development workflows, including governance of vendor-delivered software.
• Develop engineering automation for data processing, simulation, testing, data transformation, documentation, and reporting across software and non-software engineering teams.
• Establish monitoring, logging, alerting, automated patching, configuration control, recovery validation, and security practices using Prometheus and Grafana; coordinate incident response and root-cause analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or above in IT Engineering, Computer Science, or a related subject.
• 3+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, SRE, or Engineering Automation.
• Professional proficiency in Japanese for business operations.
• Strong Linux administration experience, especially with Ubuntu.
• Extensive CI/CD experience; GitLab experience is preferred within the required CI/CD qualification.
• Strong Git and GitOps knowledge.
• Experience designing reusable automation workflows.
• Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with software and non-software engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with SRE practices, including SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
• Experience supporting engineering organizations beyond software development teams.
• Experience with engineering process automation.
• Experience in software governance, software quality, configuration management, or compliance.
• Experience managing vendor-developed software assets.
• Experience with AI/LLM-assisted software development workflows.
• AWS certifications or previous technical leadership or mentoring experience.
• Business-level bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese.
