Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Hybrid; report to Austin, Texas or Warren, Michigan three times per week.

What you will do

• Design and develop backend services, APIs, integrations, microservices, and event-driven solutions supporting digital commerce and order-management workflows.
• Integrate Shopify, IBM Order Management System, subscription and billing systems, fulfillment services, and internal or external partner platforms.
• Improve scalability, performance, security, resiliency, maintainability, and production reliability through technical design reviews and corrective actions.
• Own CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment automation, release readiness, rollback strategies, and environment configuration.
• Build operational capabilities including logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerts, health checks, runbooks, and service-level indicators.
• Deploy and troubleshoot containerized workloads on Azure and Kubernetes, collaborate with DevOps and SRE partners, mentor engineers, and support hiring activities.

Requirements

• At least five years of professional software engineering experience and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on backend development experience with Java, Python, Node, or a comparable language; microservices, REST and GraphQL APIs, data modeling, asynchronous processing, and service integrations.
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, automated unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing, Git-based development, code reviews, CI/CD, and release management.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, configuration management, secrets management, and cloud-native application development.
• Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, including logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerts, and incident troubleshooting.

Nice to have

• Experience in eCommerce, digital commerce, order management, fulfillment, subscriptions, billing, vehicle services, or customer-facing transactional systems.
• Experience with Shopify, Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, Drools, Spring Boot, Terraform, or comparable platforms and tools.
• Experience with secure software development, API security, secrets management, automated rollback, and environment-management processes.
