Senior Staff Software Engineer (Backend, Automotive)

Location: Based at the hirify.global location in Fremont, California, United States, with regular in-office attendance required. In-person meetings, events, and occasional business travel are expected.

Salary: $198,000–$242,000 annual base salary for California, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

hirify.global is developing electrified, digitally connected pickup trucks and rugged SUVs, including all-electric and range-extender powertrains.

What you will do

• Lead the development and delivery of digital products including order management, customer management, marketing, inventory, loyalty, servicing, mobile applications, and vehicle connectivity.
• Design, code, deploy, and operate scalable backend architectures, APIs, microservices, integrations, and reliable software systems.
• Partner with engineering, product, design, and external service providers to define roadmaps, requirements, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Lead large technical projects spanning multiple teams, evolving early-stage products and improving the reliability of existing systems.
• Establish engineering standards, operational metrics, tooling, CI/CD practices, and software delivery processes.
• Recruit, manage, mentor, and develop high-performing software engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, scaling software products, and providing technical leadership, preferably in ecommerce, payments, digital products, or backend platforms.
• Experience building APIs, microservices, complex backend systems, and integrations with third-party platforms.
• Strong coding skills across Go, Java, Kotlin, and Swift, with experience managing CI/CD pipelines for web and mobile releases.
• Experience leading large technical projects and defining roadmaps across multiple teams and functions.
• 4+ years of experience leading high-performing software engineering teams, including recruiting, management, motivation, and technical development.

Nice to have

• Experience building data pipelines, AI/ML systems, or web and mobile analytics.
• Automotive industry experience.
• Full-stack development experience.
• Experience launching 0-to-1 products and scaling early low-code tools into customized applications.
