What you will do
- Plan daily transport routes using order volumes, delivery requirements, cut-off times, vehicle availability, and driver availability.
- Allocate vehicles and drivers, prepare dispatch plans, and ensure sufficient transport capacity for daily operations.
- Forecast vehicle demand using historical data, peak plans, operational trends, and volume forecasts.
- Optimise routes to improve vehicle utilisation, reduce empty mileage, control costs, and increase delivery productivity.
- Monitor planned versus actual route performance, including delivery completion, mileage, cost, departure times, and utilisation.
- Support peak-season planning, new route design, customer onboarding, network expansion, and transport improvement projects.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in transport planning, route planning, logistics planning, dispatch, fleet planning, parcel delivery, 3PL, or distribution operations.
- Good understanding of vehicle allocation, route optimisation, delivery scheduling, capacity planning, vehicle utilisation, and cost control.
- Experience using volume, operational, route, or cost data to support planning decisions.
- Basic understanding of UK transport compliance, including driver-hours rules, the Working Time Directive, vehicle capacity, and overloading risks.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, including collaboration with operations, warehouse teams, drivers, DSPs, subcontractors, 3PL carriers, and management.
- Strong Excel skills are required; a degree in logistics, supply chain, transport management, operations, business, data analysis, or a related field is preferred.
Nice to have
- Experience with TMS, WMS, route-planning systems, fleet-management systems, telematics, Power BI, or other data tools.
- Experience in e-commerce, parcel delivery, last-mile or middle-mile operations, high-volume transport, or multi-drop delivery.
