What you will do
- Manage daily transport operations at the Manchester site, including vehicle dispatch, driver allocation, route execution, and delivery progress.
- Coordinate warehouse, sortation, planning teams, drivers, DSPs, subcontractors, and other operational partners.
- Control loading safety, vehicle capacity, load security, dispatch readiness, and vehicle release decisions.
- Monitor shifts and respond to traffic delays, breakdowns, driver absence, failed collections or deliveries, and planning changes.
- Lead driver briefings and debriefings, maintain operational records, and report service failures, risks, and performance results.
- Drive improvements in dispatch efficiency, loading control, route execution, driver performance, and issue resolution.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in transport operations, logistics dispatch, fleet operations, parcel delivery, e-commerce logistics, 3PL, or distribution-centre transport management.
- At least 2 years of people management or team supervision experience in a transport, warehouse, logistics, or operations environment.
- Good understanding of UK transport operations and compliance requirements, including driver hours, tachographs, the Working Time Directive, vehicle safety, and overloading risks.
- Strong on-site coordination, decision-making, communication, problem-solving, and KPI management skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience with TMS, WMS, routing, fleet management, or telematics systems is preferred.
- A degree in logistics, supply chain, transport management, business, operations management, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may be accepted instead.
Nice to have
- Experience with HGV, LGV, van fleets, DSPs, subcontractors, agency drivers, or third-party transport partners.
- Experience in e-commerce, parcel delivery, last-mile, middle-mile, or high-volume transport operations.
- Transport Manager CPC, IOSH, NEBOSH, or similar qualifications.
