Consultant, Backend Developer (Java)

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada; hybrid arrangement with 1–3 days per week on-site at Toronto-81 Bay

What you will do

• Convert business requirements and specifications into application designs and programming instructions.
• Design, develop, code, test, debug, document, and maintain back-end Java and Spring applications.
• Build and support microservices and event-driven applications using Event Mesh technologies.
• Provide production support and contribute to application customization, enhancement, modernization, and maintenance projects.
• Coordinate complex programming activities and manage multiple concurrent development priorities.

Requirements

• 9+ years of Java application development and support experience.
• Experience with Java/J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot, SQL, REST/JSON, SOAP/XML, microservices, YAML, XSD, and UML.
• Experience with Event-Driven Development, Solace/PubSub+, gRPC, and Event Mesh platforms.
• Knowledge of Linux/RHEL, Docker, OpenShift, Unix shell scripts, GitHub, Maven/Ant, JUnit, SVN, Snyk, Sonar, and JIRA/Confluence.
• Experience with Agile, iterative development, and the Software Development Life Cycle; strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a technical discipline. Legal eligibility to work in Canada and a valid work or study permit where applicable are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with GitHub Copilot and AI-powered applications.
• Experience with file-based processing applications.
• French proficiency may be assessed during the hiring process.
