Software Engineer, Backend (Fintech)

Location: Remote across Canada

Salary: CAD $148,300–$171,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring/Spring Boot.
• Own backend features and projects across the full software development lifecycle, including deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Build scalable, reliable, and performant microservices, RESTful APIs, databases, messaging systems, and event-driven components.
• Collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, Security, Compliance, and Engineering stakeholders to translate requirements into secure solutions.
• Implement automated testing, logging, monitoring, and observability; investigate incidents and perform root-cause analysis.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and technical debt and improve scalability, resilience, developer productivity, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, or approximately 3+ years with an advanced degree.
• Bilingual English and Mandarin proficiency.
• Strong production backend development experience with Java and Spring/Spring Boot.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, distributed systems, relational or NoSQL databases, data modeling, transactions, and application-level data integrity.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, deployment technologies, event-driven systems, messaging or streaming, and production observability, including AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Kafka or comparable technologies.

Nice to have

• Experience in cryptocurrency, fintech, payments, trading, or other high-availability financial systems.
