Associate Director of External Communications (Litigation)

Location: New York, United States

Annual salary: $200,000–$240,000, with the final offer dependent on geographic location, experience, and skills.

What you will do

• Lead external communications, proactive media relations, and reputation-building programs for the Litigation department.
• Partner with department leadership, firm leaders, lawyers, and business functions to develop communications strategies aligned with business priorities.
• Manage media relationships and serve as a spokesperson and primary contact for media inquiries.
• Write and edit press releases, media pitches, talking points, statements, messaging, and communications materials.
• Lead awards and recognition initiatives, thought leadership, content promotion, and campaigns across earned and social media.
• Advise on crisis communications, reputation management, media training, interview preparation, and sensitive matters.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of direct communications or public relations experience with B2B clients and at a management level; 10+ years is preferred.
• At least 4 years of management experience, including hiring, team development, work assignment, performance management, coaching, and corrective counseling.
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of and contacts within national print, broadcast, and online media, together with an understanding of financial markets and business concepts.
• Experience with crisis and issues management communications, digital marketing, social media strategies, and content creation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, iManage, and other firm applications after orientation; ability to work extended or weekend hours and travel as required.

Nice to have

• Experience in a law firm, professional services organization, PR agency, government service, or political environment.
• Senior-level experience providing strategic leadership, influencing key decisions, and guiding team direction.
