Director of Communications

Location: Remote within the United States; must be located in the Washington, D.C. area

Salary: $205,000–$235,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Develop and execute integrated communications strategies that advance organizational priorities and shape external narratives.
• Lead proactive and reactive media engagement, including rapid-response communications and real-time messaging.
• Partner with government relations, legal, marketing, and senior leaders to translate complex issues into clear communications.
• Oversee press releases, op-eds, digital content, and other external materials through drafting, approval, and distribution.
• Advise senior leadership on messaging, tone, reputational risk, emerging issues, and external opportunities.
• Build, mentor, and manage the communications team while establishing disciplined operating processes.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in strategic communications, executive communications, public affairs, or a related field.
• Strong media relations and third-party relationship management experience.
• Experience directing rapid-response efforts and producing written communications for high-level audiences.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across executive, corporate, media, and social formats.
• Must be located in the Washington, D.C. area.
• Background navigating complex political, defense, or technical regulatory environments.

Nice to have

• Experience developing multi-channel campaigns integrating earned, owned, social, and paid media.
• Experience establishing processes that improve speed, accountability, and judgment within communications functions.
