TL;DR
Engineering Lead (Energy Efficiency): Leading technical projects and utility program support for commercial and industrial energy-efficiency studies with an accent on energy-savings analysis, natural gas systems, and measurement and verification. Focus on developing analytical tools, performing regression modeling and energy simulations, and reviewing technical deliverables for accuracy and compliance.

Location: Hybrid, with remote work available from any U.S. state or Ontario, Canada; up to 20% travel to project sites across Canada and the United States.

Base salary: $86,000–$101,000 annually, plus potential discretionary annual bonus.

What you will do

  • Lead technical projects supporting energy-efficiency studies, utility programs, and engineering initiatives for commercial and industrial customers.
  • Develop algorithms, calculation tools, data-collection instruments, work papers, scopes of work, project plans, budgets, and technical methodologies.
  • Perform and review energy-savings analyses for HVAC, building controls, lighting, refrigeration, compressed air, building envelope, and natural gas systems.
  • Lead measurement and verification using engineering calculations, utility billing analysis, interval data, regression modeling, and energy simulation.
  • Use Python, spreadsheets, and analytical tools to clean, analyze, automate, and visualize energy and program data.
  • Supervise staff, coordinate engineering and analytical resources, and review reports, calculations, presentations, proposals, and client deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field with at least four years of relevant experience, or a related master’s degree with at least three years of relevant experience.
  • Experience developing and reviewing energy-savings calculations for commercial and industrial systems, including natural gas end uses.
  • Experience managing technical projects, including scopes, budgets, schedules, staff assignments, and client deliverables.
  • Experience using Python and/or Excel for data cleaning, statistical analysis, regression modeling, automation, and data visualization.
  • Experience conducting measurement and verification using engineering calculations, utility billing analysis, interval data, or regression modeling.
  • Interest in sustainability and environmental impact.

Nice to have

  • Experience with boilers, furnaces, water heating, process heating, steam systems, building controls, and other natural gas technologies.
  • Experience applying ASHRAE standards, CSA standards, technical resource manuals, and energy-efficiency program requirements.
  • Experience reviewing third-party program evaluation reports, field inspections, technical algorithms, analytical tools, and emerging energy-efficiency technologies.
