TL;DR
Thermal Systems Lead Engineer (Modeling/Simulation): Building and optimizing performance models for integrated data center thermal systems with an accent on CFD, thermal-fluid-electrical analysis, and system-level design validation. Focus on analyzing operating and failure scenarios, optimizing PUE, WUE, and carbon emissions, and developing predictive analytics with the BrainBox AI team.

Location: Virtual/remote, Davidson, North Carolina, United States

Annual base salary: $95,700–$199,300

What you will do

  • Build and run detailed CFD and simulation models for integrated data center thermal systems.
  • Analyze thermal, fluid, and electrical performance across operating conditions and failure scenarios.
  • Define simulation requirements, validate model accuracy with testing and real-world data, and influence system-level reference designs.
  • Provide performance simulation data for customer-specific designs and develop system selection and configuration tools.
  • Model customer KPIs including PUE, WUE, and carbon emissions reduction.
  • Coach junior engineers and represent the company in industry standards bodies such as ASHRAE.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering.
  • Expertise with modeling and simulation software such as CFD and Ansys.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and automation.
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Experience modeling complex, multi-component systems and working across engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to speak and write in English, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and communicate with customers and external partners.

Nice to have

  • Data center or high-tech engineering design experience.
  • Experience with PLC controls, onsite power generation, or backup power distribution.
  • Knowledge of HVAC products, components, and systems.
  • Experience with Autodesk Forma.
