Senior Engineering Manager, Enterprise AI Product

Location: Remote Canada; applicants must reside in Canada and have permanent work authorization. Visa sponsorship is not provided.

Salary: $190,000–$220,000 CAD per year

What you will do

• Lead engineering execution for Thunderbolt as it progresses from R&D incubation to a mature enterprise product.
• Manage, coach, support, and grow a small senior engineering team, including engineers and contractors.
• Stay close to technical execution through code contributions, code reviews, architectural tradeoff evaluation, and quality oversight.
• Translate product direction, AI strategy, user experience goals, and technical priorities into clear engineering plans.
• Establish planning, review, release, testing, documentation, and follow-through practices that improve predictability and reliability.
• Partner with product, design, enterprise-facing teams, and technical leadership to scale an enterprise-ready open-source AI product.

Requirements

• 15+ years of professional software development experience, including senior engineering leadership or complex product delivery.
• 5+ years managing technical teams with senior engineers or senior individual contributors.
• Technical fluency with AI-enabled products, including LLM applications, RAG workflows, agents, enterprise search, automation, on-device AI, or AI evaluation.
• Experience delivering complex applications across desktop, web, and mobile using Tauri, Electron, React Native, or comparable frameworks.
• Experience with enterprise, regulated, security-conscious, privacy-sensitive, or customer-controlled product architectures, including self-hosted, hybrid, on-premise, or air-gapped deployments.
• Permanent Canadian work authorization and residence in Canada are required.

Nice to have

• Experience in open-source or maintainer-style engineering environments.
• Experience with SOC 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001, or similar compliance and security frameworks.
• Experience taking a product from zero to one in a startup or new product initiative.
