TL;DR
Test Engineer I, Vehicle Stages (Aerospace Test Operations): Setting up and executing tests for valves, mechanisms, COPVs, and launch vehicle systems at Firefly’s test facility, with an accent on fluid systems, test procedures, and hands-on operations. Focus on developing automated test scripts, troubleshooting anomalies, analyzing test data, and supporting launch operations in California.

Location: Onsite at the manufacturing and test facility in Briggs, Texas, north of Austin; travel to launch operations in California may be required up to 25%.

What you will do

  • Set up and perform tests on valves, mechanisms, COPVs, and other aerospace components.
  • Develop and execute test procedures for launch vehicle systems and subsystems.
  • Operate test consoles, voice communication systems, and data display and control systems.
  • Validate, activate, upgrade, and maintain test stands, including scheduling operations and maintenance downtime.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and non-conformances, supporting failure and anomaly investigations.
  • Develop automated scripts, analyze test data, and improve test and launch system performance, reliability, and cost.

Requirements

  • BS in engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience building, troubleshooting, or operating fluid systems.
  • Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to work on test stands, use standard mechanical and electrical tools, lift 30 pounds, and remain on your feet all day when required.
  • Must meet U.S. Government ITAR eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship, U.S. lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and P&IDs.
  • Experience generating test plans and performing fluid-system calculations for liquids, cryogenic liquids, and gases.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, data acquisition, control methods, and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
