TL;DR
Test Engineer I (Aerospace): Integrating, instrumenting, and testing rocket and spacecraft fluid components and assemblies with an accent on test stand operations, fluid systems, instrumentation, and data analysis. Focus on developing test infrastructure and procedures, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, and supporting time-sensitive launch operations with up to 20% travel.

Location: Firefly test facilities in the Austin, Texas area, with potential travel to the SLC-2W launch site. Onsite, hands-on work is required; the role includes second-shift work up to 50% of the time and up to 20% travel. ITAR eligibility requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required U.S. authorizations.

What you will do

  • Integrate, instrument, and test rocket and spacecraft components and assemblies using test stands and test software.
  • Execute test plans and procedures through console operations, voice communication systems, and data display and control systems.
  • Develop test plans, procedures, automated scripts, and infrastructure for launch vehicle and component testing.
  • Analyze test data, troubleshoot anomalies, and support failure investigations and resolution development.
  • Diagnose and rework fluid, electrical, and mechanical issues on test stands.
  • Support test stand improvements, system validations, upgrades, and integrated launch vehicle operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and use standard mechanical and electrical tools.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and remain on your feet throughout the workday when required.
  • Ability to work second shift up to 50% of the time and meet ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience with hydraulics, actuators, load cells, fluid systems, or cryogenics.
  • Launch vehicle testing, launch operations, or experience building and troubleshooting fluid and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of technical drawings, GD&T, and P&IDs.
  • Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, control systems, data analysis, or custom code development.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
