TL;DR
Test Engineer, Structures Test (Aerospace): Developing and executing primary and secondary structures testing for the Haven-1 space station with an accent on test-system design, instrumentation, environmental testing, and traceable documentation. Focus on designing test stands, analyzing structural fixtures, troubleshooting high-pressure and closed-loop systems, and delivering safe test campaigns under demanding schedules.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States; travel to the Mojave test site approximately 25% of the time. Variable hours, extended hours, and weekend work may be required. U.S. export-control eligibility is required: the candidate must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $112,340–$195,552 USD per year

What you will do

  • Develop and execute primary and secondary structures testing for the Haven-1 space station.
  • Design, analyze, manufacture, and operate test stands and complete test-system setups.
  • Plan and execute test campaigns with responsible engineers, design engineers, technicians, Manufacturing, Integration, and Avionics teams.
  • Create traceable electrical, mechanical, and fluid documentation, including schematics and P&IDs.
  • Lead Test Readiness Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews, and Critical Design Reviews before designs and tests begin.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians while improving test processes, safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in an engineering environment such as testing, launch, or manufacturing.
  • Experience designing and executing environmental tests using standards such as SMC-S-016, GEVS NASA-STD-7000A, or MIL-STD-810G.
  • Experience with test plans, procedures, instrumentation, precision sensors, data acquisition hardware and software, and structural test-fixture design and analysis.
  • Experience with hydraulic or pressure control systems, high-pressure gas systems, root-cause analysis, CAD, version-control, PLM, project-management, and collaboration tools.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Long Beach, travel to Mojave approximately 25% of the time, work variable or extended hours and weekends when needed, and meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements.
