Staff Software Engineer II (Cloud Infrastructure)

Location: Remote from anywhere in the United States; some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: $161,000–$299,000 per year.

What you will do

• Build and operate the mission-critical Confluent Cloud network data plane platform.
• Architect, design, develop, and operationalize high-performance, scalable, reliable, and resilient systems.
• Drive technical initiatives across networking, cloud infrastructure, and multi-tenancy.
• Independently lead software projects and technically guide engineers delivering production systems.
• Build on open-source software and collaborate with upstream communities, including CNCF projects.
• Troubleshoot and improve operations across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments using microservices, containers, and virtualization.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States.
• 10+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure or cloud networking experience.
• Strong distributed systems design and development fundamentals and experience operating large-scale systems.
• Experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects across teams.
• Proficiency in C++, Go, Python, or another statically typed language.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and with Layer 7 proxies, particularly Envoy.

Nice to have

• Open-source contributions to CNCF projects.
• Experience with Kubernetes Networking.
• Strong networking expertise combined with software engineering experience.
• Master’s degree or education in computer science or a related field.
