Staff Software Engineer II – Confluent Cloud Infrastructure & Platform

Location: Remote within the United States. Some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: $161,000–$299,000 per year

What you will do

• Build and operate the mission-critical Confluent Cloud network data plane platform.
• Architect, design, develop, and operationalize high-performance, scalable, reliable, and resilient systems.
• Drive technical initiatives across networking, cloud infrastructure, and multi-tenancy.
• Independently lead software projects and technically guide engineers delivering production systems.
• Build on open-source software and engage with upstream communities, including CNCF projects.
• Troubleshoot and improve operations for a complex stack spanning AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes clusters, microservices, containers, and virtualization.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure or cloud networking experience.
• Strong distributed systems design and development fundamentals, with experience building and operating large-scale systems.
• Experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects across teams.
• Understanding of storage, networking, operating systems, and other systems operations fundamentals.
• Proficiency in C++, Go, Python, or another statically typed language.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and with Layer 7 proxies, especially Envoy.

Nice to have

• Open-source contributions to CNCF projects.
• Experience with Kubernetes networking and a strong networking background.
• Master’s degree, computer science education, or equivalent work experience.
