Software Engineer (Cloud Infrastructure)

Location: Hybrid role based in San Jose, California; Morrisville, North Carolina; or Waltham, Massachusetts, United States. Most roles have in-office and/or in-person expectations.

Salary: USD 196,350–292,600 per year, depending on location, qualifications, experience, and education.

What you will do

• Lead the design and development of scalable, resilient infrastructure across storage, networking, virtualization, and Linux systems layers.
• Drive architecture and technical direction for software-defined storage, virtualization infrastructure, and distributed cloud platforms.
• Architect and optimize storage and networking data paths for performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership for KVM/QEMU, hypervisors, virtual networking, storage virtualization, and infrastructure orchestration.
• Lead resolution of complex distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, virtualization, and enterprise storage challenges.
• Coordinate cross-functional initiatives, mentor engineers, and influence technical direction across engineering and partner organizations.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in systems software engineering, distributed infrastructure, virtualization, storage systems, or cloud infrastructure development.
• Expert-level C/C++ programming skills and strong Python proficiency.
• Deep expertise in Linux internals, kernel technologies, systems architecture, concurrency, memory management, and performance engineering.
• Significant experience building distributed storage systems, software-defined infrastructure, or cloud-native infrastructure services.
• Expertise with KVM/QEMU, virtio, hypervisors, virtual storage, virtual networking, storage subsystems, or device drivers.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI and a proven ability to lead complex cross-functional technical initiatives.

Nice to have

• Experience architecting enterprise-scale storage operating systems such as ONTAP or similar platforms.
• Experience with infrastructure modernization or platform transformation initiatives.
• Contributions to open-source systems software, kernel, virtualization, storage, or cloud infrastructure projects.
• Advanced cloud certifications or equivalent recognized expertise.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.
