Staff Software Engineer Java/Backend/AI/Dispute Platform

Location: US - Austin, TX; hybrid schedule with at least 3 days in the office. Travel required 5–10% of the time.

Salary: $133,300–$213,400 USD per year, with potential bonus and equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable Java applications, APIs, web services, and microservices for the global Disputes Platform.
• Build highly available distributed systems that process large transaction volumes with strong performance and resilience.
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions and system designs while collaborating with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams.
• Develop maintainable code, perform code reviews, mentor engineers, and promote software design and quality standards.
• Investigate production issues, perform root cause analysis, and improve platform stability, observability, automation, and operational efficiency.
• Use SQL, database technologies, cloud-native tools, and AI-assisted development technologies to support transaction processing and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, 2+ years with an advanced degree, 0 years with a PhD, or 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong experience developing scalable, distributed, enterprise-grade software using Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, REST/SOAP services, and microservices.
• Experience with React, SQL, NoSQL databases, DB2, Cassandra, MySQL, Kafka, message brokers, Gradle, and Git.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, cloud technologies, and software delivery from design through production deployment.
• Experience with Java or Python data processing, Spark, ETL frameworks, troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis.

• Experience with generative AI, AI/ML technologies, Jenkins, Ansible or Chef, Agile/Scrum, and secure software development life cycles.
• Experience with test automation tools such as Selenium, TestNG, and Cucumber.
• Knowledge of Linux/UNIX, shell scripting, workload automation tools, SAFe, or payment and transaction processing.
