Ground Infrastructure Solutions Architect (D2D NTN)

Location: Carlsbad, California, US; hybrid, site-based role requiring at least 3 days (60%) per week in the Carlsbad office

Salary: $180,500–$285,000 annually; for specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area, $224,500–$336,500 annually.

What you will do

• Define the end-to-end ground infrastructure architecture for a Direct-to-Device Non-Terrestrial Network platform across UE, RAN, Core Network, and interworking functions.
• Shape the platform roadmap by translating product goals into architectural principles, interfaces, assumptions, and feature sequencing.
• Architect roaming, registration, mobility, session management, fallback, and service continuity between NTN and terrestrial networks.
• Define UE, RAN, and Core requirements aligned with 3GPP Release 17/18 NTN specifications and identify deployable solutions for standards gaps.
• Coordinate technical decisions with Product, Engineering, Satellite Operations, chipset vendors, OEMs, network vendors, and ecosystem partners.
• Guide design reviews, trade studies, integration, end-to-end validation, and lab, field, and commercial readiness.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in LTE and/or 5G system architecture, including Core Network concepts.
• Hands-on experience with NTN, satellite-cellular integration, or Direct-to-Device architectures.
• Strong understanding of UE, RAN, and Core interactions, especially mobility and roaming.
• Experience defining architectural requirements across multi-vendor ecosystems.
• Familiarity with 3GPP system architecture and standards-based design.
• Senior individual contributor experience with proven architectural authority; US citizenship required.

Nice to have

• Experience contributing to or engaging with 3GPP, such as SA2.
• Involvement in commercial NTN or IoT service launches.
• Background in NB-IoT NTN, LTE SCS, or NR-NTN.
• Experience defining end-to-end KPIs, validation strategies, or field performance criteria.
• Advanced degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
