TL;DR
System Configuration Engineer II (Aerospace): Managing vehicle-level configuration, integrated CAD, assembly hierarchies, and traceability across hardware, software, and test plans with an accent on configuration control, manufacturing integration, and mass properties. Focus on administering change review boards, driving CDR deliverables, and solving multidisciplinary design and production challenges across aerospace vehicle programs.

Location: North Austin, Texas; U.S. person status or eligibility for the required U.S. Department of State authorizations is required under ITAR

What you will do

  • Own vehicle-level configuration management, including traceability across hardware assemblies, software, and test plans.
  • Manage integrated CAD, assembly hierarchies, assembly drawings, metadata, and lower-level drawing reviews.
  • Coordinate CAD integration with ground support equipment and publish vehicle test configurations for test planning.
  • Manage mass growth allowance, vehicle mass properties predictions, and verification plans throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
  • Administer the change review board and ensure changes are documented and traceable.
  • Drive CDR deliverables, design-freeze readiness, and continuous improvement of system design and manufacturing practices.

Requirements

  • BS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of hands-on CAD design and complex assembly management experience.
  • Expertise in GD&T, design for manufacturing, and design for assembly.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and assembly methods, production management tools, and quality control processes.
  • Understanding of mechanical, structural dynamics, materials, electrical, mechatronics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, orbital mechanics, controls, and propulsion principles.
  • Amenability to travel and schedule flexibility around program milestones, with strong communication and presentation skills.

Nice to have

  • MS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
  • Scripting and process automation experience.
  • Agile project management experience with JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
  • Knowledge of ASME, MIL, ASTM, NASA, SMC, or equivalent range standards and systems engineering practices.
