TL;DR
Senior Design Reliability Engineer (Aerospace): Standardizing and implementing design processes for in-space transportation vehicles with an accent on design standards, margining, configuration management, and design release workflows. Focus on using build and flight data, guiding design-for-reliability reviews, solving root-cause problems, and maintaining product integrity across propulsion and other hardware systems.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite. Flexible schedule and willingness to travel as needed are required. Applicants must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential stock options.

What you will do

  • Define and document design standards and best practices across structures, propulsion, avionics, composites, mechanisms, and related hardware.
  • Own design margining, configuration management, design reviews, templates, milestones, and release workflows from CAD through PLM, MRP, and ERP.
  • Create tools for design-data compilation, change traceability, and recording key technical decisions.
  • Provide design-for-reliability guidance during design reviews and build planning.
  • Use build and flight data to improve requirements, assumptions, and engineering decisions.
  • Drive quality containment and corrective actions while collaborating with build reliability, quality, and flight reliability teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hardware design and analysis experience in aerospace, automotive, or other high-reliability systems.
  • Experience supporting design for manufacturing, build integration, or testing of primary structures or complex mechanical and electromechanical systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of GD&T.
  • U.S. ITAR eligibility is required.

Nice to have

  • 8+ years of design reliability experience with spacecraft, launch vehicles, aviation, robotics, or other hardware.
  • Practical experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality systems.
  • Experience with FMEA, reliability growth, and Weibull analysis.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and supporting rapid development or prototype-to-production transitions.
