Software Engineer

Location: Onsite at the Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey, California, United States

Salary: $110,000–$125,000 per year

What you will do

• Write, debug, optimize, and maintain software modules with engineering teams.
• Collaborate with senior developers to troubleshoot complex issues and integrate new features.
• Deploy software changes to the operational environment at the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center and provide transition reports.
• Design and execute manual and automated unit, integration, and system testing.
• Identify, document, and track defects using issue-tracking systems such as Jira and GitLab.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, API guides, release notes, and user manuals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Secret security clearance.
• At least 2 years of software development experience.
• Experience with data structures, algorithm development, documentation, and technical writing.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a development team.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, Fortran, Bash, or KornShell.
• Weather modeling experience.
• Operational center experience.
