Software Engineer, IR Data Products

Location: Hybrid, with on-site work required three days per week at the San Jose, California office. Employment is available in registered U.S. states, and the role involves access to export-controlled information.

Salary: $190,000–$212,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build, test, and maintain production pipelines that transform raw infrared satellite frames into calibrated, geolocated, and orthorectified products.
• Develop fire detection and perimeter data products under strict latency requirements.
• Improve performance through profiling, parallelization, and removal of critical-path overhead.
• Implement workflow orchestration for continuous processing across multiple satellites.
• Build monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling, and participate in an on-call rotation.
• Work with remote-sensing scientists to productionize algorithms and diagnose data-quality and processing failures.

Requirements

• BS, MS, PhD, or equivalent practical experience in computer science, engineering, physical science, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience with a BS, or 3 years with an MS, beyond internships.
• Strong Python skills and experience writing tested, reviewed, and maintainable production software.
• Familiarity with AWS or similar cloud infrastructure and containerized deployment.
• Experience working with data at a scale where naive approaches are insufficient.
• Must be able to satisfy applicable U.S. export-control access requirements for ITAR/EAR-controlled information.

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial data tools and formats such as XArray, COG, GeoTIFF, NetCDF, GDAL, or Zarr.
• Experience with Flyte, Airflow, or similar workflow orchestration systems.
• Experience optimizing data-intensive systems and operating production systems on call.
• Experience with satellite, remote-sensing, or scientific imagery pipelines.
• Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or similar tools.
