TL;DR
Software Engineer, IR Data Products (Python/Remote Sensing): Building and operating production pipelines that transform raw infrared satellite imagery into calibrated, orthorectified products and wildfire detections with an accent on latency, reliability, and continuous processing across a growing constellation. Focus on optimizing data-intensive workflows, implementing orchestration and monitoring, and converting remote-sensing algorithms into maintainable production software.

Location: Hybrid, on-site in San Jose, California three days per week. Access to export-controlled information requires U.S. person status, eligibility for access without export authorization, or eligibility and reasonable likelihood of obtaining the required authorization.

Salary: $156,000–$186,000 per year, plus equity and comprehensive benefits.

Company

hirify.global designs, builds, and operates LEO satellite constellations that deliver mission-critical Earth intelligence for climate monitoring, national security, and other remote-sensing applications.

What you will do

  • Build, test, and maintain production pipelines that transform raw infrared imagery into calibrated, geolocated, and orthorectified products.
  • Optimize processing performance through profiling, parallelization, and reduction of critical-path overhead to meet strict latency targets.
  • Implement and operate workflow orchestration for continuous automated processing across multiple satellites.
  • Build monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling; participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate with remote-sensing scientists to turn algorithms and prototypes into tested, maintainable production code.
  • Diagnose data-quality and processing failures, contribute to reviews and testing practices, and document the shared codebase.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, physical science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience with a bachelor’s degree or three years with a master’s degree, excluding internships.
  • Strong Python skills and experience maintaining tested, reviewed code used by other people.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and containerized deployment.
  • Ability to work with data at scale and collaborate in a distributed, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled information is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with geospatial tools and formats such as XArray, COG, GeoTIFF, NetCDF, GDAL, or Zarr.
  • Experience with Flyte, Airflow, or similar workflow orchestration systems.
  • Experience optimizing data-intensive systems, working with satellite or scientific imagery pipelines, or operating production systems on call.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or a similar tool.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with equity compensation.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus a 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance and life insurance.
  • Three weeks of paid vacation for new employees, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave.
  • Work focused on climate monitoring, environmental intelligence, and safer, more resilient communities.
