TL;DR
Functional Safety Engineering Lead (Robotics): Building and scaling functional safety capabilities for complex robotic and electromechanical systems with an accent on team leadership, safety roadmaps, and standardized engineering processes. Focus on applying HARA, FMEA, FTA, STPA, and model-based safety analysis while addressing AI-based perception, shared autonomy, and human-robot proximity risks.

What you will do

  • Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing functional safety engineering team across multiple seniority levels.
  • Define the technical roadmap for functional safety engineering and align safety capabilities with the product portfolio.
  • Establish standardized safety processes, templates, tools, and advanced analysis methods across development projects.
  • Act as the escalation point and technical authority for complex safety decisions, trade-offs, and resource prioritization.
  • Ensure safety plans, analyses, requirements, and safety cases meet quality standards and program timelines.
  • Track group-level staffing, workload, and process-maturity metrics while supporting continuous competency development and standards-body engagement.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience in functional safety engineering and at least 2 years of direct team or group leadership experience.
  • Professional safety certification such as TÜV, Exida, or equivalent.
  • Deep knowledge of ISO 13849, ISO 10218, and IEC 61508.
  • Expertise in HARA, FMEA, and FTA, with practical experience in STPA and model-based safety analysis.
  • Experience scaling safety processes, tooling, and team structures from small teams to multi-program environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Medini Analyze, APIS IQ, DOORS, Polarion, and JIRA, plus experience with CE/machinery or automotive safety for complex electromechanical systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ISO 26262 or ISO/PAS 21448.
  • Familiarity with emerging robotic safety challenges involving AI-based perception, shared autonomy, and human-robot proximity.
