Senior Software Development Engineer (Java)

Location: Bellevue, Washington, United States. Local employees near Bellevue or New York offices work hybrid, coming into the office 1–3 days per week; employees in non-office-based roles located farther from an office may work fully remotely. Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $140,183–$150,800 USD annually, plus eligible equity, bonuses, commissions, and overtime.

What you will do

• Design extensible, testable, and shareable software domains for multiple engineering teams.
• Develop automation architecture, maintain quality standards, debug complex CI/CD issues, and implement secure deployment strategies.
• Build scalable, highly available APIs and redesign legacy services for reliability and operability.
• Apply platform engineering principles to improve developer experience, infrastructure abstraction, self-service capabilities, and operational efficiency.
• Lead root cause analysis for complex incidents, reduce operational toil, and introduce solutions addressing systemic issues.
• Align cross-functional stakeholders, mentor engineers, and promote AI-assisted development practices.

Requirements

• Significant experience developing shareable software features and leading small-to-mid-sized technical initiatives.
• High-level architectural decision-making experience, including API design and complex database operations.
• Hands-on experience with platform engineering, internal developer experience, infrastructure abstraction, and self-service capabilities.
• Expert knowledge of AWS, including S3, Lambda, EC2, and IAM.
• Java, Spring Boot, MySQL, RabbitMQ or a similar message broker, Kubernetes/EKS, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience using AI coding assistants and LLMs to accelerate software development, plus strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform.
• Experience with CircleCI and CI/CD concepts.
• Experience identifying incident trends and implementing broad systemic solutions.
