TL;DR
Structural Dynamics Engineer II (Aerospace): Deriving and validating high-frequency dynamic environments for launch vehicles and spacecraft with an accent on random vibration, shock, engine dynamics, and vibro-acoustic analysis. Focus on processing flight and engine test data, developing Craig-Bampton reduced-order models, performing coupled-loads analysis, and reducing technical risks across propulsion, structures, and test programs.

Location: United States work authorization required for ITAR compliance. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

What you will do

  • Derive and validate random vibration and shock environments using flight data, empirical methods, damage-based analysis, and relevant aerospace standards.
  • Perform rotor-dynamics, flow-induced vibration, engine acoustics, and acoustic cavity coupling analyses.
  • Process flight and engine test data using advanced signal-processing methods to resolve anomalies and guide design improvements.
  • Develop frequency-based substructuring workflows and Craig-Bampton reduced-order models in Nastran for coupled-loads analysis.
  • Provide technical direction for engine test-stand instrumentation and collaborate with propulsion, structures, and test organizations.
  • Mentor dynamics engineers, lead technical risk-reduction activities, and present analyses to program leadership and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in structural dynamics with expertise in high-frequency dynamic environments, random vibration, shock, rotor dynamics, flow-induced vibration, and engine acoustics.
  • Advanced proficiency with Nastran and Femap, including custom Craig-Bampton reduction; experience with Wave6 or equivalent vibro-acoustic software.
  • Strong Python programming skills with pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and signal-processing libraries, plus MATLAB experience.
  • Expertise in FFT, PSD, filtering, windowing, root-cause analysis, frequency-based substructuring, and coupled-loads analysis.
  • Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements. Strong technical writing, presentation, analytical, collaboration, and mentoring skills are required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in Structural Dynamics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Direct experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft programs, environmental testing, test-analysis correlation, and anomaly resolution.
  • Experience with Pyyeti, PyNastran, IMAT, Siemens TestLab, Git, or custom signal-processing scripts.
