TL;DR
Senior Spacecraft Propulsion Systems Engineer I (Spacecraft Propulsion): Developing and owning spacecraft propulsion and fluidic systems from requirements and modelling through qualification, production, and acceptance testing with an accent on system-level design, propulsion performance analysis, and test-data validation. Focus on leading end-to-end development, making risk-based engineering decisions, and mentoring engineers across complex civil, commercial, and defense space programs.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite office-based role.

Base pay: $115,000–$172,000 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Own the development of spacecraft propulsion and fluidic products or systems as a technical lead.
  • Perform performance calculations, systems modelling, static and transient analysis, validation, and system design.
  • Define and manage requirements and lead systems engineering activities.
  • Plan, set up, instrument, execute, and analyze propulsion tests.
  • Make risk-based technical decisions, manage schedules, prioritize work, and coordinate engineers and technicians.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to engineering processes, documentation, training, and peer reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in propulsion system development or another high-performance engineering field.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements.
  • Expertise in propulsion system modelling, static and transient analysis, and model validation using Amesim, EcosimPro, Simulink, or Simscape.
  • Experience with the full development lifecycle, including requirements, detailed design, qualification, production, and acceptance testing.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering V, risk-based decision making, and propulsion systems using electrical and chemical storable propellants.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Jama, Python data manipulation, NX or equivalent CAD, GD&T, engineering drawings, and PLM tools such as Teamcenter or Windchill.
  • Experience with National Instruments data acquisition systems, flight hardware testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on engineering experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in ambiguous environments.
  • Master’s degree or PhD.
