Senior Propulsion Development Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: San Francisco, United States; in-office five days per week is an essential part of the role

What you will do

• Create test plans, objectives, methodologies, and operational ranges for propulsion hardware.
• Define instrumentation placement and analyze measurement limitations, hardware behavior, and performance data.
• Diagnose hardware and software issues, implement corrective actions, and communicate results through data reviews.
• Maintain data-processing scripts and develop automation to improve test throughput and reliability.
• Use GasTurb and NPSS cycle models to predict engine performance from analytical maps and operating conditions.
• Integrate test findings into system-level performance models and next-generation hardware designs while improving facility capabilities.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with fluidic and propulsion systems, test operations, and data analysis.
• Experience working with hazardous environments, including flammables, high voltage, and pressurized systems, together with appropriate safety mitigations.
• Knowledge of fluid systems, instrumentation hardware, rotating machinery, vibration, natural frequencies, and high-speed data acquisition.
• Familiarity with data acquisition and control systems, PLC hardware, communication protocols, data structures, test instrumentation, and data reduction.
• Experience with GasTurb, NPSS, Python, and Matlab for engine cycle modeling, analysis automation, and data processing.
• Strong initiative, attention to detail, quality focus, and flexibility in a fast-paced engineering environment.
