Senior Spacecraft Propulsion Components Engineer I (Aerospace): Developing and owning spacecraft propulsion and fluidic components from concept through qualification, production, and acceptance testing with an accent on mechanical design, flight hardware reviews, and hands-on integration. Focus on test planning and data analysis, risk-based engineering decisions, and guiding end-to-end development for civil, commercial, and defense space programs.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; based out of the Long Beach propulsion engineering team.

Base pay: $115,000–$172,000 USD annually in California. Additional compensation includes company stock.

What you will do

  • Own the development of spacecraft propulsion and fluidic products or systems as a technical lead.
  • Create conceptual and detailed CAD designs, performance calculations, and engineering analyses for propulsion components.
  • Review and approve drawings, 3D PMI, reports, specifications, qualification reports, and flight hardware releases.
  • Plan, set up, instrument, execute, and analyze propulsion component tests, including hands-on integration and troubleshooting.
  • Manage project schedules, priorities, task assignments, and status communication with leadership and stakeholders.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians while contributing to engineering processes, documentation, training, and technical standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in propulsion system development or an equivalent high-performance engineering field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, or another technical engineering discipline.
  • Detailed mechanical design experience with NX or equivalent CAD software and PLM systems such as Teamcenter or Windchill.
  • Experience with design reviews, flight-part release approval, qualification decisions, requirements, detailed design, production, and acceptance testing.
  • Hands-on integration and testing experience, ideally with National Instruments equipment and software, plus experience with electrical and chemical storable propellant systems.
  • U.S. citizenship and willingness to obtain a security clearance are required. U.S. export-control rules may also require U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected status, or applicable authorization.

Nice to have

  • Python for data manipulation and post-processing.
  • GD&T, engineering drawings, requirement and verification sets, test plans, and test reports.
  • National Instruments data acquisition systems and flight hardware testing and troubleshooting.
  • Experience making physics-based, risk-informed decisions in ambiguous technical environments.
  • Master’s degree or PhD and demonstrated hands-on engineering skills.
