Composite M&P Engineer II (Aerospace): Researching, selecting, testing, and qualifying carbon fiber composites, polymers, adhesives, and related processes for aerospace structural applications with an accent on materials characterization, process control, and product reliability. Focus on performing failure analysis, developing material specifications, correlating material properties with product performance, and driving root-cause corrective actions.
Location: Onsite at the manufacturing and test site in Briggs, Texas, north of Cedar Park. Ability to travel to customers and other Firefly sites up to 10% of the time.

What you will do
- Research and select composite materials and processes for structural aerospace applications.
- Design, lead, and perform materials testing and evaluations, including microscopy, thermal analysis, mechanical testing, and non-destructive evaluation.
- Execute material characterization and allowable campaigns.
- Develop and maintain technical specifications for materials and processes.
- Support manufacturing and design teams with non-metallic materials selection, optimization, qualification, and inspection.
- Lead or support material failure analysis, root-cause corrective actions, and process improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering or science discipline.
- At least 2 years of experience in polymeric materials research, testing, or manufacturing.
- Technical understanding of composite processes, including out-of-autoclave processing, composite and polymer joining, and surface engineering for aerospace applications.
- Experience coordinating laboratory work and analyzing data to support materials engineering decisions.
- Ability to establish strong interdisciplinary relationships and work effectively in a team.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR regulations.
Nice to have
- Advanced degree or equivalent experience focused on composite materials.
- At least 3 years of experience with carbon fiber composite research, testing, processing, or manufacturing.
- Experience with carbon fiber prepreg systems and structural composite characterization.
- Expertise in mechanical, thermal, microscopy, NDE, and failure-mode analysis, as well as technical writing.
- Experience with ASTM, ASM, NASA, and ISO standards and with process-property-performance relationships.
