TL;DR

Location: South Burlington, Vermont, United States; onsite presence is required in composites facilities, labs, hangars, and manufacturing environments, with occasional travel to suppliers, test sites, and partner facilities.

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 USD per year.

What you will do

  • Guide design teams in developing composite aircraft components and participate in design reviews.
  • Develop materials and manufacturing processes, test new materials, and optimize composite-part manufacturability and cycle time.
  • Coordinate material and process qualifications, write test plans, oversee testing, and prepare engineering reports.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and external facilities on process controls, operator training, and equipment requirements.
  • Audit internal and supplier facilities, support first article inspections and conformity activities, and disposition nonconformance reports.
  • Troubleshoot engineering and manufacturing issues throughout aircraft development and production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy, Materials, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of aerospace experience with composite materials; 10+ years is preferred.
  • Experience auditing suppliers and internal facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of industry specifications for materials, processes, testing, and quality.
  • Experience writing specifications, test plans, and test reports, and overseeing and executing tests.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, coaching, organization, and learning skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience in product development and supporting certification.
  • Experience in clean-room and laboratory environments.
