Senior Backend Engineer (Robotics)

What you will do

• Design and own the API-first architecture and distributed communication layer for the Cognitive Twin.
• Develop high-throughput, low-latency bi-directional telemetry sync loops using gRPC, Protobuf, and WebRTC.
• Build a symmetric control plane to ensure virtual and physical robots behave identically under load.
• Create connectors and real-time links for device-data ingestion using Fast DDS.
• Develop cross-cutting API/SDK layers and generate language-agnostic SDKs for external developer environments.
• Set deployment standards and harden distributed services for robustness and scalability.

Requirements

• Must be able to work on-site in Metzingen / Riederich, Germany.
• University degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Several years of experience designing and operating distributed, real-time systems and APIs/SDKs.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++17) and Python for tooling.
• Solid grasp of inter-process communication, networking (TCP/IP), and real-time constraints.
• Experience with robotics middleware (ROS 2 Humble, Fast DDS) and containerized deployment (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Perfect command of English required.

Nice to have

• Experience with gRPC-Web, Envoy, or CI/CD for distributed services.
• Prior experience building software for real robots, including control loops and device drivers.
• Open-source robotics or middleware contributions.
• German language proficiency.
