Assistant General Counsel, Data Privacy & AI

Location: Hybrid role based in Reston, Virginia, US

What you will do

• Lead global legal strategy for privacy, data protection, cross-border data transfers, and privacy-by-design across the product lifecycle.
• Shape the AI governance program and advise on generative AI, machine learning, transparency, intellectual property, bias, accountability, and explainability.
• Monitor global privacy and AI legislation, including GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, FERPA, and the EU AI Act.
• Advise Information Security and IT on cybersecurity, incident response, data governance, data retention, and responsible data use.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, HR, Sales, Procurement, and executive leadership on technology transactions, vendor relationships, customer commitments, and AI-enabled products.
• Develop scalable legal processes, manage outside counsel, and evolve the global privacy legal and AI governance programs.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• 10+ years of legal experience in privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, technology, or regulatory law.
• Significant in-house legal experience supporting a global SaaS, cloud, software, or technology company.
• Strong knowledge of global privacy regulations, AI governance, emerging technology regulation, cybersecurity, and data governance.
• Experience building enterprise-wide privacy compliance, AI governance, and data governance programs.
• CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, or another IAPP certification; experience with global operations and cross-border privacy matters.
