TL;DR
Senior Embedded Firmware Design Engineer (Mixed-Signal Sensing): Designing, developing, and validating low-power embedded firmware for mixed-signal sensing SoCs with on-chip ADCs, proximity, touch, and gesture recognition with an accent on firmware architecture, signal processing, and hardware-firmware co-design. Focus on pre-silicon and post-silicon validation, optimizing power and memory constraints, implementing testability and diagnostics, and mentoring junior engineers.

Location: San Diego, California, USA — hybrid with 4 days in the office and Friday remote

Salary: $116,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design, develop, verify, and optimize embedded firmware for low-power mixed-signal circuits and sensing SoCs.
  • Develop rule-based and ML-based inference firmware, using AI-assisted development tools and evaluating AI-generated code.
  • Define system, hardware-firmware, CPU, memory, and testability architectures, including diagnostic features.
  • Implement pre-silicon simulation, unit and regression testing, debugging, emulation, and FPGA prototyping.
  • Support silicon lab evaluation, performance characterization, post-silicon customer support, RMA analysis, and field issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with hardware, analog, verification, application, and test teams while mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

  • 8–10 years of industry experience developing embedded firmware for mixed-signal integrated circuits.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Strong experience with C/C++, assembly, Python, bare-metal firmware, MCU architectures, and instruction sets, including ARM, RISC-V, PIC, or STM32.
  • Knowledge of real-time embedded systems, signal processing, algorithms, hardware-firmware co-design, and power, speed, memory, and resource trade-offs.
  • Experience with I2C, I3C, SPI, MIPI, JTAG, PCIe, version control, release management, integration, unit testing, and regression testing.
  • Hands-on experience with development boards, FPGAs, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and multimeters.

Nice to have

  • Experience with system or digital design tools, Matlab, SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL.
  • Experience developing circuits for consumer, industrial, or automotive markets.
