Senior Staff Firmware Engineer (C/C++)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; 4–5 days per week in the office, with flexible work from home during different project phases

Salary: $182,400–$314,400 per year; target midpoint $228,000–$262,000

What you will do

• Lead the firmware engineering team and represent firmware priorities in cross-functional product design discussions.
• Architect and develop real-time C/C++ firmware on TI/ARM platforms using TI-RTOS.
• Write drivers and state machines for custom PCBs and actuate smart hardware through sensor integration, signal processing, motor control, and feedback control systems.
• Integrate firmware with software update pipelines and build systems while debugging firmware-to-software communication.
• Build unit, board, and regression tests in C++ and Python using test-driven development.
• Define firmware best practices, mentor junior engineers, and support electrical and systems engineers with firmware work.

Requirements

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of firmware engineering experience and demonstrated technical leadership or mentorship.
• Deep experience with C, C++, and Python.
• Strong understanding of analog and digital circuits, electrical schematics, and their relationship to firmware tasks.
• Experience with TI microcontrollers and interfaces including USB, I2C, SPI, UART, and custom serial protocols.
• Proficiency with Git or similar version control and circuit-level debugging using multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and bench equipment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Altium Designer, in-circuit testing of PCBAs, and board-level troubleshooting with electrical teams.
• Familiarity with Field-Oriented Control of PMSM motors.
• Experience with Protobuf, nanopb, bootloaders, or OTA update tools.
