Staff Firmware Architecture Engineer, Propulsion and Battery (Embedded Firmware)

Salary: $210,000–$245,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and implementation of hardware abstraction layers, peripheral drivers, and board support packages across MCU families.
• Configure, integrate, and optimize RTOS platforms, including OS selection, task architecture, and resource management.
• Develop reusable frameworks and libraries for telemetry, firmware updates, health monitoring, and other core platform functions.
• Improve Bazel-based build infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines through reproducible builds, dependency management, toolchain maintenance, and scalable configurations.
• Drive platform API, coding standard, memory management, boot-time, and runtime performance decisions across ECUs.
• Support vehicle system integration, ECU communication, debugging, root cause analysis, product quality, and safety initiatives for propulsion and battery systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of firmware development experience in safety-critical, time-sensitive, or resource-constrained environments.
• Previous software architecture experience with a focus on portable, maintainable, and scalable code.
• Expert-level C programming; familiarity with C++, Python, and Bash scripting.
• Hands-on experience with low-level firmware, drivers, bootloaders, embedded diagnostics, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG.
• Understanding of control systems, system integration, electric drivetrains, battery technology, vehicle communication protocols, RTOS platforms, CI/CD, static analysis, linting, and test automation.
