Software Engineer Specialist (Fintech)

Location: New York City, New York, USA; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in-office

Base salary: $86,000–$146,000 per year, plus annual bonus or commission, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and web applications using Java and modern web technologies.
• Lead architectural decisions and code reviews focused on secure, high-quality, high-performance delivery.
• Build and optimize client-server applications for real-time market data processing, transaction workflows, and exchange operations.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, DevOps, and QA teams on integration, deployment, and support in Linux-based environments.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions that improve reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Maintain technical documentation and follow security, industry, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with enterprise-scale applications using Java, SQL, and modern engineering principles.
• Experience building and supporting web applications with React or similar frameworks in Linux-based environments.
• Strong knowledge of client-server architecture, API development, system integration, multithreaded programming, and performance optimization.
• Ability to build, deploy, and support secure, scalable, high-performing systems while collaborating across teams.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without employment-based visa sponsorship; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience in capital markets, trading systems, fintech, or regulated financial environments.
• Knowledge of real-time data processing, event-driven architectures, low-latency systems, or FIX protocols.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, or observability tools.
• Knowledge of secure software development, regulatory compliance, and mission-critical production support.
