Staff Mechanical Engineer – Upper Body Tech Lead (Robotics)

What you will do

• Define the mechanical architecture for Apollo’s torso, head, and arms, balancing mass distribution, range of motion, and structural rigidity.
• Bridge Industrial Design and Engineering by translating design intent into functional Class-A surfaces and integrated robot skin assemblies.
• Design high-performance robotic limbs, dynamic mechanisms, and a protective torso chassis for high-energy impact events.
• Integrate compute modules, batteries, perception sensors, cooling, and other subsystems within space- and thermally constrained assemblies.
• Architect cable and wire-harness routing through high-flex joints while maintaining cycle life and signal integrity.
• Own the Design Verification Test plan, including environmental, vibration, and lifecycle testing, while mentoring engineers and leading design reviews.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience designing complex robotic systems.
• Expertise in Class-A surfacing and complex geometries using tools such as SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA.
• Demonstrated experience designing multi-axis robotic arms or high-degree-of-freedom dynamic mechanisms.
• Exceptional tight-space integration skills, including packaging of complex mechanical and electronic subsystems.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives, build consensus, and influence cross-functional stakeholders without direct reporting authority.

Nice to have

• Experience with ruggedized electronics packaging or automotive/aerospace interiors.
