Dispatcher (Transportation Operations)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri, United States; on-site

Salary: $30–$33 per hour, with potential additional bonus, equity, or commissions.

What you will do

• Direct daily route assignments, schedule drivers, and assign vehicles to ensure complete route coverage and on-time service.
• Communicate assignment details to drivers, provide routing support, and coordinate special service assignments.
• Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs to minimize service interruptions.
• Respond to emergencies and notify schools, families, drivers, and internal stakeholders about route changes, accidents, breakdowns, and disruptions.
• Provide real-time operational support for traffic issues, routing questions, and emergency situations.
• Maintain route documentation, incident records, vehicle assignments, customer information, and operational reports while supporting compliance objectives.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency with Microsoft or Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, and Slides.
• Experience in high-pressure, time-sensitive operations such as transportation, logistics, field services, customer service, or hospitality.
• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate schedules and assignments, maintain accurate records, and track assets and inventory.
• Ability to work on-site in Kansas City, Missouri.

Nice to have

• Leadership, supervisory, or management experience in a fast-paced operational environment.
• School bus or transportation experience as a driver or dispatcher.
• Knowledge of state DOT/DMV safety rules and company compliance requirements.
• Experience working in a union environment.
• Knowledge of Kansas City traffic patterns, road restrictions, neighborhoods, and school-district geography.
