Transport Manager (Logistics)

Location: On-site in Manchester or Milton Keynes, UK; shift flexibility may be required

What you will do

• Manage a mixed fleet of HGVs, LGVs, vans, drivers, DSPs, subcontractors, and other transport partners.
• Coordinate with warehouse, sortation, planning, and operational teams to ensure safe, timely vehicle dispatch and achievable delivery routes.
• Lead and supervise drivers and transport staff, including briefings, training support, performance management, and disciplinary matters where required.
• Ensure transport operations comply with DVSA guidelines, traffic regulations, driver-hours and tachograph rules, the Working Time Directive, vehicle-safety requirements, and Operator Licence obligations.
• Oversee vehicle inspections, maintenance, defect resolution, tachograph records, driver-hour records, route planning data, and other compliance documentation.
• Respond to customer requirements, traffic issues, breakdowns, driver availability, incidents, and compliance breaches while leading corrective actions and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• National and International CPC holder.
• At least 5 years of experience in transport operations, logistics dispatch, fleet operations, parcel delivery, e-commerce logistics, 3PL, or distribution-centre transport management.
• At least 2 years of people-management or team-supervision experience in a transport, warehouse, logistics, or operational environment.
• Good understanding of UK transport operations, including driver hours, tachograph rules, Working Time Directive requirements, vehicle safety, and overloading risks.
• Strong on-site coordination, decision-making, communication, problem-solving, and KPI-management skills.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office; relevant experience with transport, warehouse, routing, fleet-management, or telematics systems is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Experience with HGV, LGV, van fleets, DSPs, subcontractors, agency drivers, or third-party transport partners.
• Experience in e-commerce, parcel delivery, last-mile, middle-mile, or high-volume transport operations.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in logistics, supply chain, transport management, business, operations management, or a related discipline.
