Staff Engineer, Safety - X-BAT (R5312)

What you will do

• Derive, refine, validate, and allocate system-level safety requirements for the X-BAT platform and support systems.
• Perform hazard analyses using STPA, SSA, FTA, PHA, FMEA, and related system safety methods.
• Maintain the X-BAT safety baseline and Hazard Tracking System, ensuring hazard accuracy, traceability, mitigation, and closure.
• Develop safety cases, certification evidence, airworthiness documentation, and technical safety materials.
• Partner with systems engineering, responsible engineers, and cybersecurity specialists during design reviews, working groups, change boards, and readiness reviews.
• Support mishap and near-miss investigations and engage directly with customer and DoD system safety representatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in systems, aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or related engineering.
• 5–8+ years of experience in system safety, airworthiness, or mission-critical systems engineering.
• Experience generating or maintaining hazard logs and Hazard Tracking Systems.
• Working knowledge of system safety processes, hazard analysis tools, requirements management, and hazard tracking systems.
• Strong analytical, technical communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Ability to possess a Secret DoD security clearance as required by customers.

Nice to have

• Experience with UAS or autonomous aircraft platforms.
• Experience with MIL-STD-882, ARP-4761, STANAG safety frameworks, or similar standards.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity requirements for safety-critical systems.
• Experience in fast-paced development or prototyping environments.
