Principal Safety Systems Engineer (Robotics)

Location: San Carlos, CA, United States; Workplace: Hybrid

Base pay: $180,000–$220,000 per year, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience

What you will do

• Own the safety and compliance roadmap, setting priorities and technical direction.
• Act as the subject-matter authority on relevant safety standards across the organization.
• Lead safety testing strategy and execution, including engagement with external certification bodies.
• Develop system safety requirements, hazard analyses, and risk assessments.
• Produce safety-case reports and certification documentation while maintaining full traceability of safety requirements.
• Mentor and guide engineers on safety best practices as the team scales.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in safety systems engineering, preferably involving autonomous mobile robots.
• Track record of independently owning safety programs.
• Deep proficiency with safety analysis tools including FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, and hazard logs.
• Experience with AMR safety standards: R15.08, ISO 3691-4, and ISO 12100.
• Strong problem-solving, cross-functional leadership, communication, and documentation abilities.
