Operations Supervisor

Location: Howard County, Maryland, USA; on-site

Salary: $85,000–$97,000 annual base salary for the CA, USA pay range; additional equity or commissions may be available.

Zūm provides a connected mobility system coordinating students, vehicles, and transportation operations for schools.

What you will do

• Oversee daily transportation operations, including scheduling, staffing, route assignments, and field trip or charter coordination.
• Monitor operational KPIs through the company’s IT infrastructure and implement corrective actions.
• Partner with the Location and Maintenance Managers on operational readiness, facility safety, fleet readiness, regulatory compliance, labor costs, and expenses.
• Supervise, coach, and develop frontline staff and supervisory teams through one-on-ones, performance reviews, and development planning.
• Coordinate with HR, Recruiting, and Safety teams on hiring, staffing levels, and employee concerns.
• Manage safety incidents, customer escalations, service issues, and relationships with internal and external customers.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience maintaining client relationships and managing accounts in an operational setting.
• At least 2 years of supervisory or people-leadership experience managing teams of 25 or more employees in fast-paced operations.
• At least 2 years of experience managing day-to-day operations in transportation, field services, logistics, hospitality, or a similar industry.
• Ability to comply with state, federal, DOT, company, and customer contract requirements.
• Experience with transportation management systems, fleet management software, operational IT platforms, and Microsoft or G Suite applications.
• Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and people-development skills.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in business analytics, business management, operations management, or a related field, or 4+ years of equivalent operations leadership experience.
• Experience in a unionized environment and familiarity with collective bargaining agreements.
• Experience in K–12 transportation or working with school district customers.
