DWDM Optical Network Engineer (DWDM)

Location: Site-based role in Carlsbad, California, or Englewood, Colorado; employees work from a hirify.global office or work location at least 3 days (60%+) per week.

Salary: $120,500–$190,000 annually. For specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $149,500–$224,500 annually.

What you will do

• Design and architect core network infrastructure supporting hirify.global’s expanding satellite fleet.
• Develop Layer 1 through Layer 3 network designs, capacity plans, and platform management solutions.
• Design fiber-based point-to-point, ring, and path-diverse network routes.
• Architect complex DWDM systems using multi-vendor network equipment.
• Create network implementation design plans, including Methods of Procedure documents.
• Automate network components and network management systems while troubleshooting optical network issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 5 years of relevant experience with multi-vendor network equipment and complex DWDM systems.
• Hands-on experience with BER testers, optical power meters, OTDR equipment, and optical system troubleshooting.
• Experience with coherent technology and long-haul network design.
• Experience with fiber network design, planning, and mapping tools.
• IP and Ethernet networking experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Nokia, Adtran, Infinera, Adva, 3-GIS, ESRI ArcGIS, or QGIS.
• Coding and debugging experience in Java, Python, Golang, or another modern programming language.
• Experience with continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps methodologies.
• Operational experience with major carriers.
• Knowledge of outside plant construction requirements and fiber deployment.
