Senior Electrical Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Must be based in the United States and willing to work on-site at the headquarters in Austin, Texas. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Persons in compliance with 10 CFR Part 810.

Salary: Starting at $135,000 per year.

What you will do

• Own the full lifecycle of reactor electrical and instrumentation systems, including architecture, detailed design, build, testing, commissioning, and iteration.
• Define and develop embedded hardware and firmware capabilities, including the transition from off-the-shelf I&C systems to proprietary embedded systems.
• Design and build control systems for reactor and balance-of-plant components, including sensors, actuators, signal conditioning, PLCs, and DCS hardware.
• Create production-ready schematics, loop diagrams, P&IDs, cable schedules, and panel layouts using CAD, EPLAN, or equivalent tools.
• Specify, procure, and qualify electrical components and instrumentation while owning the BOM and supplier relationships.
• Integrate electrical systems with mechanical, thermal, and nuclear engineering teams, mentor junior engineers and technicians, and set technical standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and building electrical systems, control panels, or instrumentation.
• Experience with embedded hardware and firmware architecture, custom PCB design, microcontroller selection, real-time firmware, and hardware/software interfaces.
• Ability to size electrical wiring in compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC), work with decentralized electronic hardware, and use industrial instrumentation such as thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, flow meters, and level sensors.
• Proficiency with NX Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent, including production-ready drawing creation.
• Experience with control-system cybersecurity, Modbus, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, OPC-UA, and independently driving electrical hardware through design, build, and commissioning milestones.

Nice to have

• Experience in nuclear, aerospace, oil and gas, or another high-consequence industry with strict quality and documentation requirements.
• Experience commissioning first-of-kind electrical systems in an R&D or startup environment and scaling prototypes into repeatable production builds.
• Experience with electrical test equipment, IEEE, ISA, NEC, nuclear I&C, and NFPA 79 standards.
• Experience designing and testing electronics for EMI/EMC compliance or harsh environments such as radiation and high temperatures.
• Experience using AI to write code and documentation.
