Staff Instrumentation and Controls Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Torrance, California, United States; onsite. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Salary: $173,000–$211,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, commission, and maintain PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, batch-control, safety-instrumented, historian, and enterprise-integration systems for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities.
• Develop PLC/DCS programs, SCADA applications, HMI displays, ISA-88 batch sequences, alarm systems, and safety instrumented functions.
• Configure historians, process dashboards, reports, and ISA-95 data interfaces with MES, ERP, and LIMS systems.
• Commission instrumentation, tune PID and regulatory control loops, specify field devices, and develop instrument indexes, hook-up drawings, and hazardous-area classifications.
• Prepare and execute FAT, SAT, commissioning, loop-check, calibration, interlock-testing, and control-loop-tuning activities while maintaining engineering documentation.
• Provide technical direction to contractors and consultants, diagnose control-system faults, perform root-cause analysis, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8+ years of I&C or controls engineering experience in process industries, including ownership of complex control-system projects from design through commissioning.
• Hands-on PLC programming experience with Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson, or an equivalent major platform using IEC 61131-3 languages.
• Experience developing or maintaining SCADA applications with Ignition, FactoryTalk, AVEVA, WinCC, or an equivalent platform.
• Experience developing ISA-88 batch-control sequences and familiarity with ISA-95 enterprise-control integration concepts.
• Experience commissioning instrumentation and tuning regulatory control loops.
• Working knowledge of OPC-UA, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, or Modbus communication protocols.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical drawings, and instrument data sheets.
• Experience specifying and sizing transmitters, control valves, and flow elements, and leading hazardous-area classification and instrument-index development for capital projects.

Nice to have

• Ignition Designer, Rockwell Automation Programmer, Siemens TIA Portal, ISA CAP, or equivalent certification.
• Additional ISA-88 experience with recipe management and material tracking.
• SIS/SIL verification and IEC 61511 lifecycle documentation experience.
• OSIsoft PI / AVEVA PI experience, including PI AF and PI Web API.
• LIMS integration experience with LabWare, Uncountable, LabVantage, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, or NQA-1 requirements for control-system validation.
• SQL and Python experience for data processing, reporting, or test automation.
• Exposure to IEC 62443 OT cybersecurity standards, secure industrial-control networks, and REST API integration.
