Location: Santa Clara, California, or remote within the United States. Remote employees must travel to headquarters twice per quarter based on business or team needs, and the first two weeks of onboarding are in person at the Santa Clara headquarters.
Salary: $135,000–$175,000 annually.

is developing fast fission power plants, nuclear fuel recycling technologies, and a domestic supply chain for critical radioisotopes.
What you will do
- Develop the HFE strategy, implementation plans, technical bases, and safety-basis documentation for a first-of-a-kind used nuclear fuel recycling facility.
- Apply human factors engineering to safety-significant activities across startup, normal and abnormal operations, maintenance, inspections, emergency response, and recovery.
- Lead operating experience reviews, function allocation, task analyses, staffing and qualifications analyses, and human action evaluations.
- Define human-system interface requirements for control rooms, local control stations, remote handling stations, gloveboxes, hot cells, alarms, displays, controls, automation, and procedure systems.
- Plan and execute HFE verification and validation activities, including mockups, simulator exercises, walkdowns, tabletop exercises, and human-in-the-loop evaluations.
- Prepare licensing, readiness review, audit, regulatory response, and inspection support materials while coordinating HFE integration with engineering teams and vendors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human factors engineering, engineering psychology, cognitive systems engineering, systems engineering, nuclear engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience applying human factors engineering to nuclear reactor or fuel-cycle technology.
- Experience with HFE analyses including task analysis, function allocation, human action evaluation, HSI design review, procedure and training inputs, and staffing qualification analysis.
- Familiarity with NRC or DOE expectations for human factors, safety analysis, licensing documentation, management measures, and credited human actions.
- Direct experience with NUREG-0711, NUREG-0700, NUREG-0800 Chapter 18, and NUREG-1520.
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to produce auditable, licensing-quality documentation.
Nice to have
- Advanced degree or professional certification in human factors, ergonomics, cognitive systems engineering, systems safety, or nuclear engineering.
- Experience with fuel-cycle facilities, used nuclear fuel handling, reprocessing, hot cells, gloveboxes, remote handling, radiological work controls, or nuclear criticality safety.
- Experience developing HFE program plans, HSI style guides, human action feasibility or reliability analyses, validation plans, or regulatory responses.
- Experience with digital instrumentation and control, automation, alarm management, control-room design, simulator development, mockup testing, usability testing, or human reliability analysis.
