What you will do

  • Develop and maintain nuclear criticality safety evaluations for processes involving fissile materials.
  • Perform criticality safety analyses with computational tools such as SCALE and MCNP.
  • Ensure compliance with NRC, DOE, and ANSI/ANS criticality safety requirements.
  • Audit, inspect, and review facility operations to identify and mitigate criticality safety risks.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams to implement safety measures.
  • Provide technical guidance and training, investigate incidents, and maintain documentation for audits and regulatory reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, criticality safety regulations, standards, and methodologies, including 10 CFR Part 70 and the ANSI/ANS-8 series.
  • Proficiency with SCALE, MCNP, or similar computational software.
  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and work extended hours or weekends as necessary.

Nice to have

  • Certification as a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer, such as ANSI/ANS-8.24.
  • Advanced degree.
  • Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, highly technical, or entrepreneurial engineering environment.
  • Evidence of exceptional ability through prior projects, portfolios, or completed products.
