TL;DR
Senior Propulsion Test Engineer (Liquid Rocket Propulsion): Conducting operations and developing test stands for liquid rocket engines and propulsion components with an accent on hardware integration, fluid systems, and data acquisition. Focus on designing clean-sheet mechanical and electrical systems, troubleshooting complex aerospace test hardware, and optimizing high-rate testing operations.

Location: Mojave, United States. Onsite at the Mojave Air & Space Port; flexible schedule and travel as needed.

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 per year, plus potential stock options.

What you will do

  • Conduct test operations for liquid rocket propulsion hardware.
  • Set up, inspect, check out, troubleshoot, and operate aerospace test hardware.
  • Create, modify, and optimize test sequences and procedures.
  • Design and build clean-sheet fluid, mechanical, and electrical systems for high-rate testing.
  • Improve operational efficiency through process upgrades and new hardware solutions.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and resolve technical issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in hardware development testing; 8+ years preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with aerospace test facilities and ownership of test stand design and build-up.
  • Strong fundamentals in thermal, structural, and fluids analysis.
  • Ability to create and communicate fluid P&IDs, electrical and controls schematics, procure test equipment, and use data acquisition and control methods.
  • Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or person eligible to obtain required authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with cryogenic propellants, high-pressure gas systems, hydraulics, or combustion devices.
  • Knowledge of valves, regulators, sensors, and power supplies, with hands-on tube fabrication, metalworking, and wiring skills.
  • Startup or agile development experience.
  • Experience with NI or other data acquisition systems such as LabVIEW.
